Doctor Recommended All Natural SAW PALMETTO
Saw palmetto is native to North America
and has palm shaped
leaves resembling a fan made of blades with saw-like edges. Historically,
Native Americans of the eastern United States have used the berries to aid
urinary, prostate and uterine function. It is one of the top herbs used in
Germany. Pumpkins are native to North America; the seeds are a traditional
food of native American Indians.
Saw palmetto
(serenoa repens) is a
significant herb which is used for the reproductive systems of men and women. In men, saw palmetto
may be useful for reducing
the symptoms of an enlarged prostate, decreased urinary flow rate and frequent urination at night. Traditionally,
saw palmetto has been used as a urinary tract
antiseptic, combating stress and improving sexual energy
(functioning and desire). In women, saw palmetto has been used as a
diuretic, urinary antiseptic and to lessen the symptoms of the menstrual
cycle. Saw palmetto appears to help balance male to female hormones in women.
NOTE: If you have prostate problems
you may want to consult a physician to determine underlying problems.

Other nutrients that may work synergistically
with saw palmetto are the bark of the herb Pygeum and
the seeds of Pumpkin, the vitamins A, E, B-6 and the mineral Zinc.
Pygeum is a tree from Africa.
The bark of pygeum has been studied for its apparent ability to reduce
symptoms of an enlarged prostate, providing for improved urinary
function. Recent studies have shown pygeum contains phytosterols that may
help regulate male and female hormones and reduce cholesterol build up in
the prostate gland.
Pumpkin seed (Curcurbita pepo) is
native to North America and traditionally used by Native Americans. Pumpkin
seeds and pumpkin seed oil are rich in nutrients and supply minerals
(magnesium, manganese, zinc, selenium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, iron),
amino acids, proteins and certain B vitamins.
Zinc is a necessary antioxidant for every
cell in the body. Low levels of zinc are apparently implicated in the
enlargement of the prostate. Do not self-diagnose.
Men: Consult a physician if you have prostate or urinary disorders and
are experiencing difficulty in voiding, frequent urination at night or an
enlarged prostate. PSA levels should be monitored with care and medications
coordinated as part of long term care for prostate health. It is thought
that these herbs may help relieve symptoms, but it is not clear if they
reduce prostate size or the underlying reasons.
