Doctor Recommended All Natural MELATONIN for Healthy Sleep

Melatonin may be beneficial for inducing restful sleep, if taken about one hour before bedtime.

Benefits, Information and Uses of Melatonin:
  •  Melatonin 3mg long acting is a hormone produced by the body that regulates the body's awake/sleep cycle and the various body functions that take place throughout the day according to the circadian rhythm (biological clock). Melatonin regulates our response to seasonal changes, certain work conditions and jet lag recovery. It may help those with sadness and other disorders in the winter.
  •  Melatonin is implicated in cellular energy production and is a key anti-oxidant that may protect the immune system.
  •  Hormone levels decline with age and stress. Melatonin's decline may be associated with aging processes such as reduced immunity to microbes, stress, mental decline, sleep disorders, cataract development, etc.
  •  Melatonin plays a part in the regulation of  the reproductive hormones estrogen and testosterone. Decreased levels of melatonin may be implicated in fibromyalgia.
  •  Melatonin can be taken as a long acting tablet. (AWW offers a fast acting sublingual tablet as well. Contact us for more information.) Children have high levels of melatonin and do not need supplementation.

Melatonin is a significant hormone produced in the pineal gland. The pineal gland is located in the back of the head at the base of the brain. Melatonin production is essential to life and longevity and is thought to be the pineal gland's sole function.

Melatonin production is highest in children and declines as one ages. External factors such as environmental toxins, stress, medications, and illness can decrease melatonin.   Melatonin's anti-oxidant properties boost the immune system and help protect all cells of the body. Many health issues of aging such as heart disease, vascular disease, sleep disorders, declining mental functions, etc. may be linked to decreasing levels of melatonin. More research is needed to clarify melatonin's role in increasing the human life span.

Melatonin regulates activity on the cellular and general body level.  Within cells, melatonin helps maintain energy production within the mitochondria.

Another important function is its regulation of the body's biological clock or circadian rhythm (the different body processes that take place during preset times during each 24 hour time period). Melatonin effects the amount of time we are awake and asleep and our adjustment to changing seasons. An increase in melatonin levels are triggered by evening darkness, while morning  light, sensed by stimulation of the retina, decreases levels. Therefore, one's exposure to early morning light aids alertness, while exposure to even dimly lit rooms can disrupt beneficial deep REM sleep needed at night. Seratonin effects melatonin levels and both may play a part in reducing headaches, anxious feeling and sadness. Throughout the day melatonin plays a role in regulating fluctuating body temperature, blood pressure, mental alertness, emotions, hormonal levels of estrogen and testosterone.
