Licorice root has beneficial flavonoids that may aid in healing the tissues of the

has been deglycyrrhizinated (DGL) because glycrrhizine can cause increased water
retention and blood pressure. In studies Licorice DGL has not shown side
effects. Licorice root is known to contain over 30 beneficial phytochemicals and
at least 14 vitamins and minerals. Licorice is used to keep the mucous membranes of
the digestive tract healthy. Licorice root appears to remove mucous from the
membranes of the respiratory tract (expectorant) and
may be beneficial for those
with asthma and gastrointestinal pain. This deglycyrrized product appears to be helpful in
preventing the formation and the healing of gastric, duodenal, and peptic
ulcers.
Licorice has been used for thousands of years without being deglycyrrinated. It
has been used to protect the liver from free radical damage and support the
liver's hormone regulating function. It was typically used for PMS and menopause
symptoms. Licorice may contribute to the body's general immune health.
Note: Licorice candy is made with anise flavoring and is not a source of the
healing herb licorice root.
